RADIATION-THERAPY

Comprehensive Cancer Consulatation – Whether it is your first consultation or you are seeking a second opinion, our physicians will review your medical records and perform a physical examination to determine if you are a candidate for various forms of radiation therapy such as external beam radiation therapy, brachytherapy or radiosurgery.

External Beam Radiation Therapy – The most common form of cancer treatment that aims ionizing radiation to destroy cancer cells, control and eradicate tumors. During the treatment, you lie on a couch/table and the machine rotates around you, sending radiation to your body from many directions. It does not make you radioactive.

High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy for Gynecological Cancers – An outpatient procedure in which a radioactive source is temporarily placed directly into or close to the tumor during a short treatment session.

High-Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy for Breast Cancer – An outpatient procedure in which a radioactive source is temporarily placed directly into or close to the tumor. By delivering a precise, highly concentrated dose of radiation directly to the breast tumor, it limits radiation exposure to surrounding healthy breast tissue, and thus reduces some of the side effects. We currently offer MammoSite and SAVI at our clinic and both treatments are giving twice a day for five days.

Permanent Seed Implant for Prostate Cancer This minimally invasive outpatient procedure is completed in 1 hour. Radioactive seeds are placed inside the prostate using ultrasound for guidance. Anywhere from 60 to 100 seeds are commonly implanted and the seeds remain in place permanently. This technique allows a high dose of radiation to be delivered to the prostate while limiting radiation exposure to the bladder, rectum and other surrounding healthy tissues. While the radiation gets weaker each day, you may need to limit your time around other people especially children or pregnant women during the first two months after the implant.

CyberKnife Radiosurgery – one of the most revolutionary cancer treatment options performed in an outpatient setting. It can be used to treat both cancerous and non-cancerous tumors anywhere in the body. CyberKnife Radiosurgery is an excellent alternative to surgery and is offered at our Pasadena CyberKnife Center.
